We are excited to announce that this year we will be facilitating the first ever community lead, global Parkour awards. We are calling it “The Parkour Awards” (makes sense right?), and it will be an annual community-based award platform that recognizes the most interesting, influential, and noteworthy Traceurs as decided by the Parkour community.
We aspire to make this completely community lead, and more than anything we see ourselves as the catalyzers and facilitators of the concept.
We first have to give credit where it’s due: Storror. “The Storror Awards” are what inspired us. The annual Storror Awards is awesome, and we especially enjoyed watching it this year. But it got us thinking: why are only 7 Traceurs deciding who gets recognized? The Storror team gave our more than $12,000 in prize money which is amazing!!! Because of that it probably should be only them deciding. But we felt that highlights a missing piece in the Parkour scene: awards made to recognize Traceurs that are decided BY the community itself. That’s what so many industries do, and Parkour deserves to have it too.
Given our mission to be a non-profit and neutral party that shares Parkour news, conducts interviews, and supports Traceurs from all walks of life, we felt we were best suited to spearhead the initiative so here we are.
We see this as a great chance to remove barriers, bring the community together, and celebrate the achievements of those who make a significant impact in the Parkour world every year.
Since this will be the inaugural year, we have a lot of things to hammer out, but the way we see it playing out is that in the last quarter of 2023 we will invite the Parkour community to nominate and then vote on their favorite Traceurs in various categories. Categories will include “Best Male Traceur,” “Best Female Traceur,” “Most Innovative Traceur,” “Best Parkour Team,” “Best Parkour Gym”, “The Helping Hand Award” and many others to be decided. All winners will be determined by the community through an online voting system to ensure the awards are open to all, transparent, and truly reflect the opinions and preferences of the Parkour community.
